Come partake in hor dourves, silent auction, artwork for sale, community ancestral shrine and ritual for honoring those whose shoulders we stand upon.

On hiatus for several years Juneteenth Twin Cities brings back its annual black visual art showcase in a grand style. Trip Tick: 2005 Juneteenth Art Exhibition . This exhibition features the works of six Chicago-based artists and is jointly curated and exhibited by three local galleries, Juxtaposition Arts, Homewood Studios and Obsidian Arts. The exhibition runs May 28 through June 30, 2005.

The artists showing at Juxtaposition Arts are Dayo Laoye and Makeba Kedem-DuBose. Makeba and Dayo bring to the exhibition the spirit of vibrancy that is so strongly associated with urban destinations like Chicago. Juneteenth's celebration of the struggles, triupmhs, and brilliance of black people, perspectives, and stories is reflected in the works on exhibit.

In closing the Trip Tick Juneteenth show giving honor to the ancestors known and unknown Juxtaposition Arts is proud to host a fundraiser for community elder Amoke Awele Kubat's Yoruba Initiation . Amoke is a writer, teacher and healer who has lived in Minneapolis for 17 years. After 20 years of devotional practice and scholarly research of Yoruba spirituality and culture with the guidance of the Orisha and her Ancestors, Amoke will be initiated into the mysteries of Yemaya and Ifa in August 2005. Monies raised will help Amoke to meet the costs of travel and supplies for her initiation.

Trip Tick artists' Dayo Laoye and Makeba Kedem-DuBose's work draw on the spirit of their ancestors and honor our shared African heritage. Dayo's work draws heavily from the culture of Yoroba.
