Studio Arts 101
October 24 - December 19, 2009
Saturday 1 –3 PM

Introduction to Juxtaposition Arts.  Drawing, illustration, painting and collage for beginners to advanced. Beginning this year, the Studio Arts 101 workshop is REQUIRED for ALL STUDENTS. This workshop provides a foundation of technical and creative skills that are necessary for success in the other workshops.

Summer Session

Free Wall (Introduction)
June 15 – 26, 2009
Monday thru Friday 9 am –12PM

Qualification: Any youth whose age is between 8 - 21 who pass a grip test
This workshop will introduce fundamental skills for mastering aerosol art. It includes daily can-control practices to articulate different line weights, fillings, fades and layers.Letter theory, symbol and character designs, color theory and compositions will be also introduced along with history of aerosol culture. If you are seriously interested in working with aerosol and have strong and steady hands to hold aerosol cans, this is a class for you!

Free Wall (Advanced)
July 6 - 17, 2009
Monday thru Friday 1 - 4pm
Qualification: Any youth whose age is between 13 - 21 who has some experience

Do you want to have a freedom to practice aerosol skills on out door walls?
This advanced aerosol class includes daily can-control practices with advanced letter theory, symbol and character designs, color theory and compositions. History of aerosol culture, sketch battles, and black book critiques will also be introduced. If you are seriously interested in developing aerosol skills and share your aesthetic approaches with the peers,this is a class for you!

Textile Camp
June 15 - July 23, 2009
Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday 1 - 4pm
Qualification: Any youth whose age is between 8 - 21

Custom T-shirts, backpacks and painted sneakers!
You will learn the basics of custom design practicing screen print, acrylic paint and textile marker techniques. Sketching ideas, testing different textures and techniques, and create one-of-a-kind customized items.

Spring Session

(r)evolution:GREEN + STREET LIFE
March 16 – May 5, 2009
Monday & Tuesday 4–7PM

Qualification: Any youth whose age is between 8 - 21
Do you want to revolutionalize your home and neighborhoods with Green technology? Solar power, green roof recycling and much more!
This workshop includes field trips, guest artists and hands-on experimentation to introduce sustainable design fundamentals using principles of renewable energy, energy conservation, storm water management, and recycling.

Saturday Open Studio : January 10 - April 25 2009
Days & Time: Saturday 1 - 3pm
Qualification: Any youth whose age is between 8 - 21

Introduction to art. This class is for beginners who wants to learn about joy of art. This class will teach a bit of everything Juxtaposition Arts offers.

Winter Break Special

Painting Fundamental : December 22, 23, 26, 27, 28, 29, 30, 2008
Time: 12 - 3 pm
Qualification: Any youth whose age is between 8 - 21
Color theory, brush techniques, textures, composition, etc... This workshop is to offer opportunities to develop fundamental techniques and skills for painting. If you have a passion for painting and want to improve your painting style, or just to want to have a focused time to paint, this is a mut take workshop for you. Winter Session

Constructive Criticism : January 12 - Feburuary 25 2009
Days & Time: Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday 4 - 7pm
Qualification: Students who participated in Painting Fundamental or youth who demonstrates strong portfolio.

Advanced Painting class with mixed media. This class will explore individual expression and communication of societal issues of your choice in multi media painting. The course will be limited to students who completed fundamental painting class or students who demontrates strong portfolio. Studio Arts Program: Afterschool Youth Workshop Spring 2008

Sculpture - Sculpture: March 10th - May 7th
Tuesdays, Wednesdays & Thursdays 4 - 7 pm


Come and learn concepts of sculpture. Using paper, cardboard, and various found objects, you will learn how to convert your ideas and thought into three dimensional forms. Starting with experimentaion on creating freestanding objects, this workshop will work you through with a process of developping your creativity and originality in sculpture .

Kids Green Revolution: March 10th - May 7th
Monday & Wednesday 4 - 7 pm


Solar, wind and fuelcell power! Greenroof and recycled materials! Have you thought about how you can influence your environment through art, design and green revolution?
This class will focus on green technology and products, through architectural design, toward a sustainable future.

Remix Your Kicks: March 31st - April 4th
Monday thru Friday 1 - 4 pm


Create one-of-a-kind customized shoes. You will learn the basics of shoe design from preparation, design, painting and finishing. Mediums include textile paint, airbrush, leather paint and more.

Aerosol Session 1 : Introductory: (Introduction Program for youth between 12 up to 16 years old)
Pick up your cans and paint rollers!
Learn the process of mural making from brainstorming ideas to painting a large scale outdoor mural. The Workshop will focus on
cultivating individual skills such as concept developments, enlarging the concept drawings, spray can & paint roller techniques as well as
nurturing a team dynamic necessary to successful mural projects.

Aerosol Session 1: Advanced:(Advanced Program for youth between 16 up to 21 years old. MUST have experience working with aerosol)
Do you have some creative skill, can control and a love to work with aerosol? Want to advance your skill? Youth will work with local
artist Chen and other skilled aerosol artists to make a large scale community mural. This workshop will challenge and develop youths skills in concept development, aerosol techniques and style.

Exceptional opportunity to work with 2006 B-Girl Be featured artist Faith47 from Cape Town, South Africa! Youth will create light post street banners to be exhibited on West Broadway Avenue in North Minneapolis.

This program's focus is sandstone sculpture, however interested youth are welcome to do projects of their choice during Open Studio. If you

Mosaic Tile Mural (youth between 13 up to 21 years old)
This workshop will focus on the art of mosaic tile mural creation. Youth will work with a professional mosaic company to install a large scale mosaic tile mural on a 20 feet long steel wall sculpture. Students will learn how to cut or break the tiles, adhere them to the surface and finally grout mosaic tiles.The mosaic mural sculpture is one element in a public sculpture garden that will be completed this summer.

March 31-April 4 Oak Park Neighborhood Center: Gymnasium mural

For the week of spring break, fifteen young people from the neighborhood will work alongside Roger, to create a mural on the currently bare gymnasium walls. Funded by neighborhood and anti-tobacco monies.

 

April 8-24 Henry High School: After school mural project

Fifteen students will create a multi-cultural themed mural that reflects their interpretation of their school. Roger will lead the project.

 

April 5 Macalester Cultural Diversity Student Group: Murals tour

Roger and DeAnna will guide a group of Macalester students and faculty on a bus tour of Juxta’s most dynamic murals.
