Studio Art Youth Program 2009
Juxtaposition Arts Studio Arts Youth Programs are FREE for youth 8-21 years old with a strong interest in visual arts. Students must attend registration interview. Beginning this year, the Studio Arts 101 workshop is REQUIRED for ALL STUDENTS – even long time Juxtaposition participants - who want to take Remix, Constructive Criticism, Free Wall, Advanced Mural and Textile Camp.

Winter/ Spring Session
Studio Arts 101
January 23 - April 24, 2010
Saturday 1 –3 PM

Introduction to Juxtaposition Arts.  Drawing, illustration, painting and collage for beginners to advanced. Beginning this year, the Studio Arts 101 workshop is REQUIRED for ALL STUDENTS. This workshop provides a foundation of technical and creative skills that are necessary for success in the other workshops. 

REMIX: Environmental Design
January 19 – March 18, 2010
Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday 4–7PM

Revolutionize your mind and neighborhood using your creativity and green technology. Solar power, green roof, recycling and much more! You will design a pocket park and amenities that make the community more enjoyable and beautiful. We’ll take field trips and have guest artists teach about sustainable design, renewable energy, energy conservation, storm water management and recycling.

Constructive Criticism
April 12 – 30, 2010
Monday thru Friday 4–7PM

Express your voice and explore issues that matter the most to you!  You’ll experiment with mixed media painting techniques by creating a large artwork that visually conveys your views on a social justice theme. Work in acrylic paint, collage, spray paint and more!  Use your visual voice to explore social issues affecting your daily life, visually conceptualize your ideas, and constructively express your ideas through your artwork.

Free Wall
June 14 – July 21, 2010
Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday 9 am –12PM

Introduction to artistic practice and aesthetic analysis of aerosol writing culture.  Students will focus on history, letter theory, vocabulary, black book practice. tags, throwies, and pieces while working on speed, precision, and techniques through daily exercises.  We’ll have visiting artist presentations, and field trips that show historical, cultural and environmental forces that affect the development of aerosol artistic vision and the public perception of the art form.

Advanced Mural
June 14 – July 23, 2010
Monday thru Friday 5 – 8PM

Rep Your Hood! Your Community! Your Street! Your Self!  Use aerosol and other mediums to produce a large-scale outdoor mural.  You will learn how to conceptualize your ideas, combine them with those of the other students and the community, install a creative visual story working as a team.  Students are expected to work as a team, be responsible for daily preparation of the site and clean up as well as interact with the public and people at the mural site.

Tetile Camp
June 14 – July 21, 2010
Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday 1 – 4 PM

Dream of starting your own clothing line?  T-Shirts are a good place to start.
You will learn prepare a graphic, learn color separation, and screen print your design on fabric.  You’ll get a variety of design experiences and take field trips.
