We’re creating a new artistic home for youth

After several years of searching the Northside for a permanent studio space, Juxtaposition Arts is thrilled to announce that we have found our dream home, a 100-year-old multi-level structure at 2007 Emerson Avenue at West Broadway in North Minneapolis.

You may be aware that for the past four years much of Juxta’s programming has taken the form of public mural projects and collaborative activities at partner organizations’ facilities. Although this nomadic approach to operating has been positive, in many ways, it has also limited our ability to maximize our time and resources in carrying out our mission most efficiently.

Our plans are to transform the space at Emerson and Broadway into a top-notch urban youth visual arts center with a studio work space, public gallery, and administrative offices.

This transformation will be an ambitious effort requiring to complete demolition and rebuild of the buildings interior (all walls, floors, HVAC, plumbing and electrical systems) as well as the roof, storefront and some foundation repair. We are thrilled to be on the cusp of taking this great leap which will quite literally change the face of this block, neighborhood, and the broader community.

Juxtaposition’s board and staff are grateful for your support over the past eight years. It has enabled us to continue to harness the power of the arts to connect people to themselves and their communities. Guided by the principle that access to the arts should be a staple not be a luxury, Juxta’s programs seek to nurture young people’s desire for artistic expression in communities where few other formal outlets exist.
